The UFO Invasion[ Purchase ]Is planet Earth being regularly visited by extraterrestrial spacecrafts? Was there ever a crash of an alien ship, with the recovery of bodies of the strange creatures? Have human beings been abducted by aliens, put through bizarre ceremonies and tests, and lived to tell about it? The UFO Invasion: The Roswell Incident, Alien Abductions, and Government Coverups, a new special collection of Skeptical Inquirer articles just released from Prometheus Books, answers these and other questions with unique, insightful, in-depth investigations into UFO-related claims that span the years 1947 to today. This volume, edited by Skeptical Inquirer editor Kendrick Frazier, CSICOP executive director Barry Karr, and CSICOP senior research fellow Joe Nickell, details the first "sighting" of flying saucers in Washington State, the "discovery" of mysterious debris in New Mexico, and how the two incidents were tied together to incite national interest and later hysteria through unsubstantiated and eventually disproved media reports. Since those early days, the UFO phenomenon has escalated to incorporate claims of abductions, torturous testing on animals and humans by aliens, crop circles, an "alien autopsy," and so much more. UFO stories from fifty years ago are now being resurrected for television, inspiring a whole new generation of misled believers. The title of The UFO Invasion, as editor Kendrick Frazier explains in the introduction, does not mean alien crafts are landing en masse across the United States. Rather, it means we are literally being invaded by thousands of media reports of everything from abductions to government coverups of UFO "evidence" -- irresponsible reporting that needs investigation. Containing forty entries from the Skeptical Inquirer, this book provides the much-needed dose of critical intelligence and scientific reasoning that has been lacking for so long in the face of these paranormal claims and the eager collaboration of many in the media. According to one review in Booklist, the volume is "...valid and true.... Much to ponder for UFO fanatics and students." Included are revealing contributions from Robert A. Baker, Robert E. Bartholomew, Joseph A. Bauer, William B. Blake, Robyn M. Dawes, C. Eugene Emery Jr., Zen Faulkes, John F. Fischer, Kingston A. George Jr., Philip J. Klass, SETI coordinator Thomas P. McDonough, Joe Nickell, James E. Oberg, Peter J. Reeven, Ian Ridpath, Robert Sheaffer, Armando Simon, Lloyd Stires, Trey Stokes, Dave Thomas, USAF Col. Richard L. Weaver, Jeff Wells, and Robert P. Young.
