[Date Prev][Date Next][Index] March 2001 'Skeptics in the Pub' Meeting
In a message dated 3/7/01 2:27:10 AM Pacific Standard Time, Skeptics-in-the-Pub@blueyonder.co.uk writes: This is your reminder for the MARCH 'Skeptics in the Pub' meeting: DATE - Wednesday, March 14th (NB: not Thursday!!) TIME - 19:30 PLACE- Upstairs in the Florence Nightingale pub 199 Westminster Bridge Road, London, SE1, Junction with York Road, on the roundabout, near Waterloo station. Detailed directions and a map of how to get to the pub can be found at www.skeptic.org.uk/pub. This month's speaker is Dr Ron Roberts whose talk is entitled 'Science, Society and the Paranormal'. Ron is currently a lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry and has previously done research work at Kings, UCL, Barts, Queen Mary College. He has authored over 40 scientific articles - chiefly in the areas of health, social inequality as well as a few on dreams. Ron has some forthcoming books, including one in June which is an edited collection with Arnold entitled 'Parapsychology: the Science of Unusual Experience'. Ron advises he is not listed in Who's Who (in case you were planning a trip to the library just to check) but no doubt a stint in the spotlight at an SitP meeting could soon change that! A welcome is extended to anyone interested in, or skeptical about, the paranormal, alternative medicine, psychic powers, pseudo-science, UFOs, alien abductions, creationism, Fortean phenomena, cult religions, water-divining, lost civilisations, etc. The interview will be followed by informal discussion in a relaxed and friendly pub atmosphere. Real ales and food available. Non-skeptics are welcome and you can turn up at any time during the night. Planned meeting dates to June are as follows (note April meeting is Wednesday rather than Thursday): 18 Apr Wed Robert Newman - Bizarre and Amusing Paranormal Claims 17 May Thur Prof David Marks -The Psychology of the Psychic 21 Jun Thur tba Marc LaChapelle
