 Student Scores Stalled in '90s in 2 Key Areas

 students, scores in reading and science stagnated in the 1990s and the
 achievement gap between blacks and whites widened, according to the latest
 measure of long-term trends in the nation's classrooms.

 Dolphins Show Language-Like Learning, Researchers Say

 WASHINGTON -- Researchers eavesdropping on the underwater signals between
 dolphins found that the mammals quickly learn and repeat intricate signals
 from their friends, an ability thought to be an important step toward
 evolving a language.

 New Study Links Biotech Corn to Butterfly Deaths

 Ever since scientists reported last year that pollen from genetically
 engineered corn could kill monarch butterfly caterpillars in the laboratory,
 scientists, industry representatives and activists opposed to genetic
 engineering have been battling over one central question: Are these
 butterflies being harmed by the millions of acres of biotech corn being
 planted across the country?
