 THE CENTER FOR INQUIRY--INTERNATIONAL
 ANNOUNCES WORLD CLASS FALL SPEAKER SERIES

 Fall Line-Up Includes James Randi, John Maddox, and Jill Tarter

 AMHERST, N.Y.-- The Center for Inquiry--International, an Amherst,
N.Y.-based think thank that houses the business and editorial offices for
Skeptical Inquirer, The Magazine for Science and Reason, announced today its
Fall 1999 speaker series.

 On Saturday, Sept. 11 at 8pm the Center will host James "the Amazing" Randi,
internationallly known magician, author, media personality, and investigator
of strange claims.  Past winner of a MacArthur "Genius" award, Randi will be
speaking on his forty years of experience investigating the paranormal.
Admission is $10.

 On Thursday, October 28 at 8pm the Center will host John Maddox, editor
emeritus of the journal Nature and author of the current best-seller What
Remains to be Discovered.  Drawing on his experience as editor of the
world's leading science journal, Maddox will be discussing the future of
science. Admission is $5.

 On Saturday, November 13 at 8pm the Center will host astronomer Jill Tarter,
director of the SETI Institute, Mountain View, CA. Admission is $5.

 "The fall promises to bring some of the most intersting and top minds in
international science and culture to Buffalo," says Barry Karr, Executive
Director of the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the
Paranormal (CSICOP), and organizer of the series. " We're hoping that people
from across upstate New York, Southern Ontario, and as far away as Cleveland
and Detroit, will join us for these top class speaking engagements. "

 The Center for Inquiry--International houses a 200 seat state-of-the-art

 The Center is located on Sweet Home Road in Amherst, adjacent to the State
University of New York at Buffalo.  Driving distances include 90 miles from
Toronto, 60 miles from Rochester, 120 miles from Syracuse, 150 miles from
Ithaca, 240 miles from Cleveland, and 300 miles from Detroit.  The
Buffalo-Niagara Falls International Airport is located 10 minutes from the
Center.

 Skeptical Inquirer, The Magazine for Science and Reason, is a bi-monthly
journal published by the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims
of the Paranormal(CSICOP).  Founded in 1976, CSICOP is an international
network of scientists and researchers dedicated to the scientific examination
