The Center for Inquiry Presents The Amazing Randi!
Last Friday's Superstition Bash at the Center for Inquiry - our August
feature event - was a tremendous success. We estimate that some 250-300
people attended the bash, gathering to hear the music of the Curmudgeons,
run the Superstition obstacle course, hear the predictions of Madame
Frawde, dunk a Witch, Warlock, Devil, and Black Cat...and so forth. We
receied very good coverage including the local ABC, NBC, and CBS TV channels
and in the daily paper, the Buffalo News. We also did dozens of radio and
print interviews around the country, including an Associated Press story.
This September's upcoming Center for Inquiry event promises to be just as
successful. On September 11, at 8:00 pm, the Center will be hosting a
guest lecture by James "The Amazing" Randi, skeptic and conjurer
extraordinaire. Randi has an international reputation as a magician and
escape artist, but today he is best known as one of the world's top
investigators of paranormal and pseudoscientific claims. He is also a
riveting speaker and entertainer.
James Randi is the author of numerous books, including The Truth About Uri
Geller, The Faith Healers, Flim-Flam!, and An Encyclopedia of Claims,
Frauds, and Hoaxes of the Occult and Supernatural. In 1996, he founded
the James Randi Educational Foundation, which offers a prize of $
1,000,000 for any psychic who can actually perform paranormal feats under
controlled conditions. To this day, Randi's million dollars remains
unclaimed.
Tickets to see James Randi's talk will cost $ 10, but are free for Center
for Inquiry Members. Get your tickets now, because seating is limited and
a number of tickets have already sold. For reservations and further
