Gentlemen:
Perhaps you can help me make contact with a writer of skeptical inclinations
to collaborate on a new opera. I am a composer and a long-time subscriber to
SI. While I applaud the efforts of CSICOP to bring an understanding of
reality to a wider audience, I believe that through the arts it is possible
to move people in a way that other venues cannot.
I would like to write a new opera that addresses the foolishness of
adhereing to a belief system handed down by an authority. The possibilities
are endless, and the plot can be drawn from life or imagination. I want this
work to hold a mirror to people in which they can see their own madness, and
I will provide a musical score that is so compelling that it will receive
wide exposure. It's time someone did this. Operatic literature is full of
religious messages, especially in the works of Wagner, but these ideas are
destructive in a host of ways that are eloquently described within your
pages. Let's bring a second opinion to the stage.
Interested librettists may contact me at dilworth@gwi.net. My musical style
is accessible, triadic, and atonal. Examples can be found on my homepage at
www.gwi.net/dilworth.
