CBS Sunday Morning
Evolution vs. Creationism
|

CBS Sunday Morning ran a major story on the
creation/evolution debate as part of its broadcast on Sunday,
September 22. The story featured Eugenie Scott, director of the National Center for
Science Education (NCSE) and a Fellow of CSICOP.
Scott is the leading expert on the creation/evolution issue. She was
interviewed at length by Charles Osgood and additional footage was
shot at one of her lectures.

The story also focused on the recent creation-evolution controversy in
Jefferson County, Colorado, where a preacher's child unsuccessfully
challenged elements in the curriculum that presented an evolutionary
view of the origins of life. The original complaint centered on a NOVA film on human
reproduction which made incidental mention of evolution, then widened
to include challenges to textbooks and other materials. The textbook
challenge never succeeded. The NOVA film was briefly withdrawn from
the curriculum, but has now been reinstated.
